Before beginning, make sure to set a prayer space for your family gatherings. Set a space that encourages the family to sit close together so that it’s easier to have meaningful conversations and prayer time as a family. It’s a good idea to have sacramental objects out, such as, rosaries, holy water, medals, statues, images of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, Bible, Cross, etc.
Family Huddle: Go around and have each member share their answers to following questions:
Affirmation: Each student will stand and repeat the following:
Prayer: Before prayer, take a moment to look at the Illustration on page 110 and share with one another what is happening. Refer to the book Pg. 111 for opening prayer
Activity: Parents and Student, take out your bible and look up Psalm 23 to complete page 112 together. (It’s best to practice looking it up in your bible but if you don’t have one in the home, you can look for the psalm online HERE).
As a family, watch video lesson 4.1 from Fr. Andrew:
(Families are encouraged to read through pages 114-117 but it is not required. The video covers the main points of this section.)
After watching the video, answer the Check Your Understanding questions in the book on page 123.
Discussion Questions:
Student, complete the activity on page 118.
Closing prayer - Close in prayer by having the student read their thank you card to God from page 118. Then, offer this prayer together:
Dear Jesus,
We praise you and give you glory
For the wonderful things you do for us;
For life and health,
for friends and family,
for this splendid day.
For these reasons, we pray as Jesus taught us:
Our Father... (Recite the 'Our Father' here)
End the gathering by offering a sign of peace (& a hug) to one another.
